REVIEW: Another Sight - PC/Steam

Synopsis:
A teenager who has lost her sight and a mysterious cat team up in a surreal fantasy adventure into the unexpected, weaving a tale that brings together some of the world’s greatest minds: Monet, Tesla, Edison and other historical cultural icons.

Review by Jon Donnis:
I have been looking forward to this game for a while, so to say expectations were high would be an understatement.

First lets look at the positives, the game is beautiful, stunning graphics, and an awesome soundtrack. A lot of effort has been made to make this game look and sound good. Special mention goes to the voice acting.

It also is an original idea, your main character is blind, and she can only interact with her surroundings through her senses. She is accompanied by a cat who you can switch controls to.

Now the negatives, the controls are poor, very clunky, jumping to new platforms never feels like you are quite in control. Because the teenager character is blind, she is incredibly slow to move and that is so frustrating. The cat is much better, much faster, but again trying to jump around is very hit and miss.

And regardless of how a game looks, if you don't feel in control of your characters you soon can lose interest.

Although a great idea for a game, it just doesn't quite have the right feel, it is very basic puzzle solving, move a lever here, swap to the cat to go stand on a pressure pad, switch back and so on. The game also has quite a few bugs which can end up with you getting stuck, or the cat disappearing.

I hoped for so much more and maybe after 6 months of bug fixes and improvements to the control systems, the game will be much better, but for now I can only give the game a 5/10

A leap into the future
Elea is a first-person storytelling experience that revolves around space scientist River-Elea. It’s the year 2073 and mankind is living in revolutionary times. Space colonization is making rapid progress and humans have built thriving colonies on Mars and the moons Titan, Ganymede and Europa. Alien life forms have finally been discovered and the awakening of a sentient AI enables spaceships to travel at lightning speed. In the midst of these developments, humanity faces extinction due to a neural mutation, turning all earth-born children into violent psychopaths.

Remembering the past
Against this tumultuous futuristic backdrop, the story of Elea takes form. It all starts in a secluded house on the shores of Mexico, where Elea awakens. She’s pregnant with her second son, has just moved in with her husband and first son, and is preparing for a new life. In reality however, Elea is not in her home but in a recovery room somewhere, years later, revisiting her memories in some sort of simulation. As the memory trip progresses, the house and its surroundings start to change and deteriorate, as time passes and grief descends on a home that was once full of love and expectations.

Old School RuneScape iOS and Android release date revealed

Wednesday 5th September 2018, Cambridge, UK – Old School RuneScape will launch on iOS and Android devices on Tuesday 30th October, Jagex announced today. The MMORPG offers a full cross-platform experience on mobile and PC, and will be available for members and non-members to enjoy.

Jagex also confirmed Old School RuneScape is now available to Pre-Order and Pre-Register from the App Store and Google Play at https://osrs.game/MobilePreRegistration

John Colgrave, Producer, Old School RuneScape Mobile said:

“The next few weeks are going to be incredibly exciting for myself, the Old School RuneScape mobile team, and for Jagex as a whole, as we count down towards the 30th October launch date. It’s been an incredible journey for us; we’ve worked tirelessly to bring the full Old School RuneScape adventure to mobile platforms, as well as enable a seamless cross-platform experience for our current, returning, and new players! Today’s invitation to Pre-Order and Pre-Register the game on the App Store and Google Play is a hugely significant one, and we can’t wait to throw open the doors next month.”

The highly-anticipated announcement comes after this summer’s extensive and overwhelmingly successful ‘Members Only Beta’, in addition to soft launches in Canada and Nordic countries, which have already seen some 500,000 Android players continue their adventures while on the move, on the sofa, or poolside on vacation.

Conor Crowley, Director of Game Development, Jagex said:

“2018 has been a year of significant milestones for Old School RuneScape on mobile, from the first closed betas at the start of the year, to the successful Members Only Beta and recent Canadian and Nordic soft launches over the summer, but none of them have been as highly anticipated as this. We are incredibly proud to confirm that Old School RuneScape on mobile is now just a matter of weeks from a full launch; we know our players – both existing and returning – have long wanted to play the game they love while away from their PCs. The countdown to 30th October is underway!”

Ever since a prototype of Old School RuneScape on mobile was shown at RuneFest 2017, the development team at Jagex has worked closely with the game’s community to ensure it delivers the same immersive living game experience, regardless of platform or device. Its top-level interface has been refined and optimised on mobile devices, including the introduction of a customisable, one-touch action button, and intuitive touch-screen controls. Featuring the RuneScape franchise’s trademark accessibility, players with devices running Lollipop (Android 5) and iOS 10 will be able to start or continue their Old School adventures across the world of Gielinor on the sofa or on the move.

Today’s announcement coincides with the launch of Old School RuneScape’s 139th quest: Making Friends with My Arm, where players will assist the maligned troll ‘My Arm’ as he tries to establish relations with the troll town, Weiss. Mobile players will be able to help My Arm out, as well as experience the many thousands of hours of available adventures, mini games, and skilling activities Old School RuneScape has to offer, in just a matter of weeks.
