REVIEW: My Arcade Burger Time and Karate Champ Micro Arcade Machines

Review by Jon Donnis

My Arcade Karate Champ Micro Player
Karate Champ was a classic arcade game released back in the mid 80's, if you were alive then and between the ages of about 6-16 then you probably spent a fair few 10 pence pieces on the game.

I got my hands on one of these mini arcade machines and I was very much looking forward to playing it.
Unfortunately it is not a direct port of the original Arcade game, but instead it is an emulation of the NES version. So that was a bit disappointing. But that aside there is an element of buying one of these machines not just for the nostalgic feel of playing a 36 year old game, but also for the artwork of the box. It is as much a piece of art that you will have on a shelf as it is a game you will play.

Personally I have mine sat on my little bar right next to my bottle of whiskey.

At roughly £30 these aren't that cheap for what you get, but overall its a fun little unit, gives you that nostalgic feel, and looks great. A definite head turner.

I give Karate Champ a safe 6/10

My Arcade Burger Time Micro Arcade Machine
Review by Jon Donnis
Unfortunately much like the Karate Champ game, this is also an emulation of the NES version and not the original arcade version, that aside it is still a fun little game, although it is missing some sound effects, the difference to the original is hardly noticeable.

I was never a big fan of the original, so I wasn't as excited to play this as I was the Karate Champ game, however I have to admit I do like this game.

Much like Karate Champ, the artwork is great, and it looks great sat on a bar or a shelf as a piece of art. Another head turner.

I give Burger Time a fair 5/10

There are more games in the "My Arcade" range, so my advice is to have a good look, and read the reviews but also ask yourself why you are buying them. Some people will love them, some will be disappointed.
I cant be fairer than that.

Thursday 6th December 2018, Paris, France – Novaquark, the French studio behind the hugely-ambitious PC MMORPG, today released  as-yet-unseen-footage of Dual Universe's new gameplay features.

Hot on the heels of Dual Universe’s first Alpha launch last week, codenamed ‘First Contact’, Novaquark has released a breath taking, in-depth video which explores the world and the features that the award-winning MMOPRG has on offer.  Narrated by Jean-Christophe Baillie, CEO of Novaquark and Baptiste Agati, Game Designer of Dual Universe, the video aims to cover in great detail the features that are available right now in Alpha.

Dual Universe is a continuous, Single-Shard sandbox MMORPG, which takes place in vast, fully editable Sci-Fi universe. It focuses on emergent gameplay with player-driven economy, politics, trade and warfare.

“The launch of the Alpha last week was a huge milestone for us, and we’re thrilled with the initial response so far.” said JC Bailie, Novaquark CEO. “We’re still keeping much of the game under wraps as we work to refine and improve it. However, we didn’t just want to keep the game exclusively for our dedicated backer and alpha testers, so we’ve created this video to lift the lid on the game and give potential players an idea of the ambitious nature of Dual Universe.”

This significant milestone at Alpha welcomes a plethora of fundamental refinements and opportunities, adding to the game’s already impressive roster of features:

World Building: terraform the world and build your own secret base, one voxel at a time
Create and Save designs: build your own bases and vehicles with voxels. Save designs of what you build by making blueprints

Explore and Harvest: go prospecting to find precious minerals. Sell at the NPC market to buy components for your constructs

Craft your components: produce the interactive components you need for your bases and ships
Due to launch in 2020, players can initiate First Contact and join in the Alpha stage by supporting the game on the Dual Universe website:

REVIEW: Jurassic World Evolution Xbox One

Review by Jon Donnis
Growing up with classic games like Sim City and other  open-ended god type games whereby you create something from scratch whether that be a City, a hotel or whatever, I was very happy to hear about a game where you could build your own Jurassic Park.

In Jurassic Park Evolution you have your own Jurassic franchise, and you start with one Island whereby you can build your own park, but it is not that easy, you have to send out people to find fossils, which in turn you collect DNA and then when you have enough you can create a dinosaur.

But this is not just about creating dinosaurs, after all you have a park to run, and you have 3 parts that will help grow and improve your park, Science, Entertainment or Security. Science is pretty obvious, Entertainment can be anything from building a gift shop for park visitors to use, or a big hotel, or even viewing areas. Security is all about protecting your park from the inevitable disasters that make the game even more of a challenge, whether that is a bad storm, or dinos escaping and attacking people.

As you bioengineer dinosaurs you can also manipulate their DNA to give them new and improved traits, that might be a new colour skin which makes the dinosaurs more attractive to visitors, or maybe a better attack of defence level.

Throughout the game you have challenged to compete which earn you money. The challenges can include simple things like creating a new dinosaur, or allowing a dinosaur to escape from its habitat and then deal with the chaos.

There is two main modes to play, the "career" mode whereby you start off on one island with one park, and then you can expand to another island and so on. Or there is the challenge mode whereby you are put in situations and and have to complete specific tasks to beat the challenge.

This game is so much fun, and if you like these types of games you will love this.

You really do get a sense of learning from your mistakes, and sometimes starting fresh and putting into practice everything you have learned really is rewarding when you see how much better you do 2nd and 3rd times around.

Plus you really can get close up to the action, you can fly helicopters, drive ranger cars and so on.

And you can also now get new premium downloadable content pack from Frontier and Universal featuring all-new locations, dinosaurs, challenges and a brand new Jurassic World story starring BD Wong as geneticist Dr. Henry Wu. Check out the trailer for that below.

The Early Access version provides players with the core game experience, including co-op multiplayer.

Thea 2: The Shattering builds on the best and most distinctive elements of the first Thea, providing more content, enriched and much enhanced gameplay, as well as new and innovative ideas. Fans of deep strategy will have access to hours of challenging entertainment, providing the perfect starter to the full game’s main course — which should be served up long before the summer of 2019 is with us.

Early Access includes all the core game mechanics: including exploration, battles, resource gathering, research and crafting. The main quest and a number of side quests will be fully playable. Fans of co-operative play will be pleased to know that co-op modes have also made it into the Early Access build.

Watch the gameplay trailer below.

Thea 2: The Shattering once again offers a unique blend of 4X turn strategy, RPG, survival — and an original card game with a dark fantasy setting — all inspired by Slavic mythology and culture. Players take on the role of gods, overseeing the actions of their tribe of followers, while navigating a procedurally-generated environment.

They will decide on their favoured play style and build on it during the adventure: they may wish to simply explore the world as nomads, take on all comers as a warlord-led army, or master the art of diplomacy; building alliances with other factions and trying to ensure the peaceful survival of their worshippers. An atmospheric musical score and moody visuals provide a perfect accompaniment to a carefully crafted Slavic narrative.

The Early Access version of Thea 2: The Shattering is available to buy on Steam now at prices 24.99 USD/ 19.99 GBP/ 21.99 EUR.

Dual Universe initiates First Contact with Alpha launch

Thursday 29th November 2018, Paris, France – Novaquark, the French studio behind the hugely ambitious PC MMORPG, today announces that Dual Universe has entered its Alpha Stage. This marks the civilization building MMO’s biggest development milestone since its Kickstarter in 2016, offering a truly massive content update.

Dual Universe is a continuous, single-shard sandbox MMORPG, which takes place in vast, fully editable sci-fi universe. It focuses on emergent gameplay with player-driven economy, politics, trade and warfare.

Craft your components: produce the interactive components you need for your bases and ships.
Built upon four key pillars - Explore, Build, Trade, Conquer - Dual Universe’s Alpha 1 brings the first three facets of this massive sci-fi sandbox to life, allowing players to explore and build almost anything they can imagine. From subterranean bases and futuristic cityscapes, to spaceships capable of interstellar travel and planet-bound hovercraft, not even the sky’s the limit. Plus, with the launch of Alpha 1, players have a lot more room to create. Thanks to the dev team’s terraforming efforts, Alioth, the game’s starting planet, has reached an area size close to the one of real life Great Britain, and that’s only the first planet.

Underpinning the game is Dual Universe’s proprietary technology, which allows millions of players to interact across one continuous shard, meaning that players are not separated by servers, instances or loading time.

“With feedback from over 4,000 players, our pre-alpha stage was incredibly successful, and we’re thrilled that we have a core community of players who are as passionate about the game as we are. Whilst we’re still unveiling our alpha at this stage, we’re confident that with our community we’ll continue to grow the game into something truly unique in the MMORPG market,” said JC Bailie, Novaquark CEO.

In order to match the words to the vision, Novaquark announced that all Kickstarter backers no matter their amount of pledge will also be able to join the Alpha allowing the game population to reach over 11.000 players before the end of the year.

While the Alpha 1 launch is the biggest milestone for Dual Universe, this is only the beginning of the journey. The team shared their vision for the Alpha & Beta development.

Due to launch in 2020, players can initiate first contact and join in the Alpha stage by supporting the game on the Dual Universe website:

22 Nov 2018

London, Thursday November 22, 2018 - Just over a year since its worldwide release across iOS and Android, the mobile sensation Snipers vs Thieves is deploying its biggest game-changing update ever, with more than 100 improvements and fan-requested additions.

The criminally-good update, which rolls out worldwide today, completely reinvents the game with new modes for hardcore players and rookies alike, as well as a stash of insanely fun new weapons, a payload of ingenious new gadgets, a gorgeous redesigned interface, and for the first-time ever, a single-player mode.

These additions come as developer FoxGlove Studios and publisher PlayStack celebrate the game’s most prestigious milestone so far: More than 25 million players have enjoyed Snipers vs. Thieves so far across iOS and Android.

“We are completely floored to see that in little more than twelve months since our global launch we have amassed more than 25 million players,” said Jan Lechner, Executive Producer at Foxglove Studios.

“This huge update is entirely for our fans, and for months we have been obsessed with making sure every player’s request has been listened to. It’s our way of saying thanks for making Snipers vs Thieves such a wonderful game to work on and such an incredible success story so far.”

Harvey Elliott, Chief Executive at PlayStack, added: “Snipers vs Thieves is immensely fun, easy to enjoy and incredibly popular with stellar ratings from our audience. We are sure that the 25 million players who have already enjoyed the game will love this huge update just as much as we do.“

A shortlist of the game’s biggest improvements and new additions follows:

Think you’re the best shot around? The new Sniper vs Sniper mode gives you a chance to prove your marksmanship prowess as you and another player pick apart packs of thieves, with the most successful shooter taking home the lion’s share of the reward.

Proving there really is no honor amongst thieves, a new Thief Race mode pits you against your crew. There’s only one seat in the getaway van, and the first to get there goes home with all the gold.
Got nerves of steel? A new Pro Thief mode offers the biggest, most eye-watering rewards ever. But there’s a catch: If a sniper takes down just one of your clan, you all lose.
For the first time ever, Snipers vs Thieves will include a single-player Horde Mode, where players take on the role of a sniper and take down wave upon wave of AI thieves that sneak, roll, and jump their way to the getaway van.

A devious arsenal of new toys are available to sniper players, ranging from disgustingly smart gadgets to brutally blunt add-ons. If you enjoy outsmarting your opponents, or love indulging in a spot of overkill, you’re going to love this:

Triggered Explosives: Launch mines onto the path of unsuspecting thieves and, when they’re close enough, light up the sky

Rail Gun: Act fast! You only have a handful of seconds to operate this remarkable feat of engineering, so make it count. Not only can the Rail Gun see through objects, it can shoot through them too. Thieves who never come out from hiding will be sitting ducks.

Air Strike: Add an element of unnecessary, dramatic overkill to the proceedings with the military Air Strike power. Select a zone and watch the chaos rain down from above.

Placeable Turrets: Let AI do all the work for you by affixing auto-aim turrets onto the enemy’s pathway. It’s a delightfully devilish way to drive thieves into your line of sight.

Change the game when playing as a thief with this new eye-opening collection of tools and power-ups, guaranteed to deliver the biggest WTFs to your crime spree:

Vampire Run: Choose this potion wisely. Once you down it you can run at exhilarating speed, but your health drains away as each second passes.

Teleport: It’s the best kind of transportation you’ll find. Select this power-up to safely rematerialise at a nearby cover point of your choosing.

Dodge Gadget: Take this and become neo, dodging oncoming fire with godlike reflexes and sumptuous acrobatics.

Buddy Speed: Arm yourself with this power for ultimate shenanigans. Select a thief and freeze them for a few seconds before they break from the ice with an incredible speed boost. The question is, are you using this to help or hinder your crew?

Snipers vs Thieves is free-to-play on the Apple App Store and Google Play
