By melding turn-based strategy gameplay with real-time battle scenarios, Skyworld gives players the chance to control a kingdom at war in VR against friends online or within solo campaigns.

The launch of Skyworld on PlayStation VR brings all-new features into the mix, allowing players to champion their achievements in-game. With a persistent leveling system, players can earn XP in single and multiplayer matches and from daily challenges, with special avatars waiting to be unlocked. Competing online can win players a spot on the brand-new Skyworld PlayStation VR leaderboards.

Players control the tides of war with a unique hybrid gameplay system of turn-based management, deck building, and fast-paced, real-time battles. By harnessing a strategic combination of the 16 available units, Skyworld players can build a deadly and specialized army with everything from archers and snipers to siege tanks and flying fortresses.

Before conquering friends and foes online, players are invited to wage war in a full single player campaign and recruit an army for a royal conquest to defend the universe. Skyworlds have found prosperity thanks to the magical cores at their center, but demons seek to control that power for themselves. Players must outwit, out-manoeuvre and out-plan their opponents to save the realm once and for all.

Athena Arrives in League of Angels III

YOOZOO Games | 13.03.19
Although it’s unlikely the goddess Athena was ever partial to a pint of Guinness, League of Angels III’s latest Mythic Hero arrives just in time for another fantastic series of holiday events — including St. Patrick’s Day.

Debuting as a support angel can be a tough gig but with her special skills Divine Honor, Dignified Judgment and Constellation Shield, Athena is the strongest Support Hero in the game so far. The daughter of Asherah, sister of Johanna, and mother of Inanna, this powerful angel will be available in upcoming events — so seize your chance to get this new Mythic Hero.

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated widely within League of Angels III and is also known as ‘Rebirth Day’; differing somewhat to real-life events, where a rebirth might be something more enthusiastic participants require the day after St. Patrick’s Day. Nonetheless, in-game, the holiday will see many angels donning their finest green costumes and holding huge feasts to celebrate.

League of Angels III will also have several other holiday additions to consider, with an all-new exclusive mount ‘Seat of Fortune’ and also new wings ‘Wings of the Fae' and outfit ‘Song of Life’ (available via Wheel of Fortune).

To join the celebrations head on over to the League of Angels III site to play the game.

REVIEW: Nice Slice for Nintendo Switch

Review by Jon Donnis
Kool2Play are back with another simple to play arcade game.
You have a super sharp knife, and endless amount of things to slice, and the smaller the pieces the higher the score, it really is as simple as that.

As you will have come to expect from Kool2Play the soundtrack is top quality, with a slow rhythmic beat that just helps you get into the game.

Obvious comparisons will be made to Fruit Ninja, but this game does have some differences, including the fact you can cut food into more than one piece.

As us slice at the food, a correct cut will add time, and a missed cut will take time off, so some skill is needed here as opposed to just endlessly trying to slice.

As you progress through the game, you collect coins which in turn allow you to unlock new things like new knives which have comic names like "Obi-Knife-Kenobi"

This is a simple game, if you enjoyed Fruit Ninja you will enjoy this. The only negative is that the controls can take a bit of getting used to, but once you do you will be flying.

A fun pick up and play arcade game that doesn't take too many brain cells to play.

I score this 7/10

Marble Combat out now on Steam Early Access for Free!

Phantom 8 is back with a total new game concept named Marble Combat. The studio’s first multiplayer game available now in Early Access on Steam and is free to play. Marble Combat will be further developed in an open development style with heavy involvement of the community - listening to the feedback of the fans is the studio’s driving force.

Gameplay style
Marble combat is a physics based multiplayer game for 2 - 8 people. Players compete as magical marbles racing and fighting to dominate capture points and collect power ups. Every player can pick a combination of four abilities which can hinder enemies, boost allies or improve ball control.

Development history
"Marble Combat started out as a small multiplayer demo pitched internally to the Phantom 8 team. It was incredibly fun and playable at an early stage and the team wanted to work on something light hearted and funny without a long development cycle. The concept provided a reasonable scope for what a small team could produce and would be easy to test and take on feedback from anyone who wanted to get involved."

"At first it was just the intention was to be a ball rolling game but like any development project, the team hit upon a flurry of new ideas for setting. After fleshing out some of the powers and level design options, a real life marble setting seemed perfect. The art style was at first a full on 1950's-60's retro feel but as we wanted to get in more and more toys and references from our childhood, it ended up containing themes from various eras."

Features
Team based multiplayer
Comedy retro theme
Physics based platformer
Single player challenges
Free to play

Dead or Alive 6 Review

Dead or Alive 6 reviewed by Mike Epstein on PlayStation 4. Also available on Xbox One and PC.

Aspiring fighters will be able to experience the sixth DEAD OR ALIVE World Combat Championship in Early 2019; and every fight will be presented in amazing detail, allowing fans to discern intricate facial expressions unparalleled to those seen in previous entries.

The DEAD OR ALIVE Tournament Executive Committee and hosts of DEAD OR ALIVE 6, DOATEC, already released the names of the first set of fighters involved in this instalment - including the owner of DOATEC, Helena Douglas. Other notable fighters include the eighteenth master of the Mugen Tenshin clan, Hayate, and past DEAD OR ALIVE (DOA) tournament winners; Kasumi of the Mugen Tenshin clan, the ultimate ninja, Ryu Hayabusa, the ever-entertaining host, Zack, and the most recent tournament winner, the scorching soul Jann Lee!

Two new locations have been scouted to host key matches in the sixth tournament: the remarkable DOA Colosseum, complete with three bold statues showcasing famous fighting stances, and The Throwdown, a gritty back street where raw unfiltered fighting can take place in its prime.

Select locations, such as The Throwdown, allow the live audience to get even closer to the action than ever before - with some unruly fans breaking the rules and pushing fighters back into the centre of the ring. Combined with the fan-favourite 'Mass Destruction', where fighters can use the environment in their attacks, this tournament is set to be one of the most entertaining ever hosted by DOATEC.

Live the Dream with Legacy of Discord

We all need somewhere to call home. YOOZOO Games and GTarcade have recognised this need and now players of Legacy of Discord can start picking out furniture and maybe even find a few friends to share the housework.

Players can now invite and place certain NPCs into their sanctuary. They can also select from three available home styles and choose furniture. Through daily resource runs and a bit of interaction with friends they can train their pets within their sanctuaries to receive special combat boosts. Or simply visit friends in their homes to get additional resources — they can even gift items to help in-game chums furnish their dream home.

Like most homes, there’s the occasional ‘domestic’ to sort out. In Guardian’s Sanctuary this comes, typically enough, in the form of a hobgoblin fight. At 7:45pm each night some sanctuaries will be visited by a hobgoblin. Players can gain additional resources by defeating this unwanted visitor and  restoring peace and tranquility to their homes.

Legacy of Discord has also seen a wide range of improvements recently, with a numerous new items added to shops; as well as a new chapter unlocked in the main dungeon. There’s also some bug squashing and plenty more to keep players happy when they’re not sitting at home with their feet up.

RuneScape launches stunning conclusion to the Elite Dungeon Trilogy

Monday 25th February 2019, Cambridge, UK – RuneScape is calling on all seasoned adventurers to plunge into the underwater depths of The Shadow Reef, the third and concluding chapter of the game’s Elite Dungeons storyline, which launches today. Set in the ancient sunken temple of Ulthven Kreath, players face a hostile environment full of aggressive enemies before a chilling encounter with The Ambassador, a malevolent creature that dwells in the deep.

The Elite Dungeons are a series of three dungeons with an over-arching storyline, where players can buddy up or go solo in raid-like experiences, and are available to all RuneScape members.

As with the previous two Elite Dungeons, The Shadow Reef includes a story mode option, enabling players to focus on the unravelling narrative, with enemies having reduced health and combat strength, although reward drops only come from boss encounters.

Dave Osborne, RuneScape Lead Designer, said:

“Last summer, we created Elite Dungeons to combine engaging storylines with raid-like dungeon experiences. The Shadow Reef brings that questline to an epic conclusion, as players uncover the secrets beneath the inky waters of Gielinor, and experience an unforgettable encounter with The Ambassador, which will push players to the limit, whether adventuring as a team or solo.

“We know that The Shadow Realm appeals to a wide variety of RuneScape players, whether that’s the ‘skillers’ who are looking to level up  their combat skills, the ‘questers’ who love delving into adventures, or the ‘challengers’ – players that are seeking to overcome the dangerously deadly dungeon, to secure the best rewards possible in the fastest time possible.”

The first parts of the trilogy, The Temple of Aminishi and Dragonkin Laboratory, were both released during summer 2018, and had to be completed chronologically by players. However, with today’s launch of The Shadow Reef, the three Elite Dungeons can be completed in any order, removing a barrier for high-level players looking to test their combat skills and meet with The Ambassador.

Finally, following on from the heroic celebrations surrounding Theresa last month — it's now Victoria's turn to be immortalised as the first Mythic Angel to appear in the game. With her two Divine Armas: Dawn Sword and Dusk Shield in hand, she feels sure she can lead the Angels to victory. REVIEW: Estiman for Nintendo Switch

Review by Jon Donnis
Kool2Play are back with another unique title for Nintendo Switch.
Estiman is an endless arcade type game that has you clicking on shapes which represent the highest number of duplicated shapes on the screen. The faster you can "estimate" the more time you get.

Once you clear the screen more shapes will pop up. And as the games gets harder, the shapes will get harder to differentiate, so might look similar, have similar colours and so on, to try and confuse you.

The game is very original, and very simple, and is perfect for the kind of person who just likes to pick up a game and play without too much thought.

As we have all come to expect from Kool2Play, the soundtrack is great, this time it is a perfect ambient style soundtrack that is never distracting and actually quite relaxing.

As a simple easy to play game, you will find yourself picking up this game to play for 5 minutes here, or a few minutes there, it really is perfect for that kind of situation when you need to kill some time.

And for only £1.79 it's hardly anything to buy.

For such a simple and easy to play game, at such a low cost it is hard to really criticise the game at all.

Fun, simple game that you will keep coming back to.
8/10

Metro Exodus Review

Metro Exodus reviewed by Tristan Ogilvie on Xbox One X.

The year is 2036. A quarter-century after nuclear war devastated the earth, a few thousand survivors still cling to existence beneath the ruins of Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro. They have struggled against the poisoned elements, fought mutated beasts and paranormal horrors, and suffered the flames of civil war. But now, as Artyom, you must flee the Metro and lead a band of Spartan Rangers on an incredible, continent-spanning journey across post-apocalyptic Russia in search of a new life in the East.

Metro Exodus is an epic, story-driven first person shooter from 4A Games that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created. Explore the Russian wilderness across vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter.

Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom's story in the greatest Metro adventure yet.

REVIEW: Hyperide for Nintendo Switch

Review by Jon Donnis
Hyperide for Nintendo Switch is very much your arcade side scroller but with a twist, unlike classic games like R-Type this is not just a "hold your finger on the fire button" type game, instead the main flow of this game is avoid obstacles. Those can vary from asteroids to black holes.

Along the way you have the usual collectables that improve your ship, but you also have astronauts that you have to save, who are conveniently floating in your direction.

You can travel through worm holes to reach different parts of the universe. The game has 7 different void quadrants and 3 different game modes.

As you have come to expect from - Kool2Play, a studio from Warsaw, the sound track is impressive and the heavy beat trance style tunes help pump you up as you play.

The graphics are very good, and the ships you can choose from have taken inspiration from various sci-fi franchises, the most obvious one being Star Trek.

The game plays very well on the Switch, and the controls do seem almost perfectly made for the Switch.

The game may not be an all time classic, but if you are a fan of the side scrolling obstacle avoiding arcade game, then you should very much enjoy this, as I have done.

I gave this game a strong 8/10

You can get this game now from the Nintendo Store for only $1.99

The Sect of Metal runs amok in the new Season of Heavy Metal Machines

Florianopolis, Brazil - January 6, 2019 - Crazed religious fanatics are loose in Sect of Metal, a new Season that is available right now on the free-to-play car combat PC MOBA Heavy Metal Machines. The Season expands the game’s lore, bringing new insights into the machinations of the violent Sect of Metal religious order, as well as 90 new items, such as new skins for characters that have been “converted” to the sect: Rampage, Little Monster and Killer J.

This new chapter of Heavy Metal Machines now explores one of the richest and most popular facet in the game’s lore, and gave room for the art team to bolster the quality of the new assets, based largely on feedback from the game’s passionate community.

“We are also working on loads of new features based on the community’s feedback”, says Tatiana Moreira, Hoplon’s Head of Marketing and Publishing. “The community was the first to know about the theme of the Season 3 and already know a little bit about Season 4. Their approval is very important for us.”

Heavy Metal Machines came out of beta in September of last year, with the introduction of the Metal Pass progression systems and it‘s first Season, the gelid Road to Malmheim, which was followed by the lovecraftian horrors of Into the Abyss, before the arrival of Sect of Metal.

Why Heavy Metal Machines rocks
Free-to-play MOBA: 4v4 multiplayer car battle with a heavy metal theme.
A Legend Reborn: Narrated by Larry Huffman, of Rock ’n Roll Racing.
Choose your role from three main classes: Interceptor, Support, and Transporter.

Deadly Drivers: 15 playable characters with their own characteristics and backstories. From Little Monster, a child hell-bent on seeking revenge for the death of her father, to Dirt Devil, a pirate leader from the Wastelands who hunts the giant sandworm that cost him an arm and an eye.

Three Hellish Arenas: Temple of Sacrifice, Metal God Arena, and the Cursed Necropolis already available to play.

Just the Beginning: More content constantly updated and new characters, arenas and game modes on the way.

eSports Championships: Planned competitive tournaments featuring cash-prizes to fuel the game’s eSports scene.

League of Angels III celebrates Theresa and her dancing

While large chunks of the UK may not agree, League of Angels III aficionados will know that Theresa is indeed a hero. Which is why the game is putting on a special event in her honour. Of course, we’re not talking about the embattled UK Prime Minister, but the flame-haired hybrid child of Prime Angel and Dragon King Ulysses.

In League of Angels II, Theresa’s life was full of conflict and uncertainty (ok, still the odd similarity) due to her special heritage. Essentially, she’s not had it easy — but League of Angels III is celebrating her kind, albeit rebellious, disposition with a special in-game event that players can find right now when they log into the game. So, let’s all celebrate Theresa for a change!

League of Angels III has also seen some big improvements recently: in version 4.0.0. the Guild War game mode has been rebuilt, with some new rules and upgraded rewards. A first Mythic Hero has been added, Victoria in the new Temple — Nebula.

January also saw a new Mount arrive — Night Falcon. One of the few flying mounts, Night Falcon grants a sharp rise in the battle rating of your heroes while also adding a huge amount of bonus HP, ATK and DEF. He also has fearfully sharp feathers and an imposing appearance; which doesn’t do any harm, right? This legendary mount can be obtained via the Wheel of Fortune.

January’s earlier New Year celebrations saw League of Angels III invite players to enjoy Angel’s Carnival — a holiday event whose origins go all the way back to Mikaela and Glacia’s reunion. Included among some tokens for turkey dinner and pumpkin pie is a new outfit, Silverfrost.

If you want to engage in some Theresa-related hero-worship, or simply play League of Angels III head over to the game's official page: https://loa3.gtarcade.com

Will you choose speed to get ahead on the straight line, or more control to get an edge on each corner? You decide.

Starlit On Wheels already features on launch 128 tracks carefully developed by the Rockhead team, but that is only the beginning. The game features a full-fledged and fun to use editor that lets players create their their own dream circuits and share them with the community. The best tracks of the week are selected for the competitive ingame Cup.

The series tells the story of the Starlits, peaceful creatures that hail from Starlit Island, a floating island in the night sky. All is well in the land until the coming of the evil Nuru, that sucks all the stars into his purse. Without them, the Starlits become sleepy and dispirited, and it’s up to Bo and Kikki to use the last remaining star to travel to the Low Lands, confront Nuru and save the day. It is just the beginning of an epic journey that will take them to different worlds, to face strange creatures and live many adventures.

Starlit was created by Rockhead, a Brazilian studio based in Porto Alegre, Brazil, with vast experience working with some of the biggest game publishers and the world. Starlit is also one of the few Brazilian franchises that explores multiple media formats: beyond the games, the franchise can also be found in comics and an animation (currently in development).

“We have been enjoying ourselves developing and testing Starlit On Wheels for many years, so we are very excited to see the players join the fun with the launch,” says Rodrigo “Chips” Scharnberg, Rockhead producer. “All the team at Rockhead worked really hard to create something truly exciting, and we are proud to be already getting some incredible feedback from both new players and fans of the Starlit series.”

Those Who Remain - Darkness Trailer | PS4

Those Who Remain is a psychological thriller that takes place in Dormont, a small town in the US. Dormont appears to be a regular and typical American town at first glance, but it is however cursed by a demon who shrouded everything in darkness.

Most of Dormont’s population has been trapped inside the darkness, with no means of escape.
Edward Turner is just an ordinary man with a troubled past, who arrives in the wrong place at the wrong time. But he soon finds out that something is very wrong in Dormont.

There are strange creatures roaming in the dark, killing everyone that gets close. The only way to survive is by staying in the light.

The danger in the dark is not the only thing at play in Dormont.

There are strange portals that emanate a bright light, that seem to bring anyone that goes through them to another place, similar yet different, apparently unreal but very real.

Actions taken in one place have repercussions in the other.

REVIEW: - Incubo on Steam

Review by Jon Donnis
Incubo is a side scrolling platform game from Hehe Gamez and has a somewhat horror theme with many famous horror ghost characters making an appearance.

At it's base this is a classic side scrolling platform game. Each screen will have a puzzle to solve before you can move to the next screen.

Puzzles vary from moving objects around to reach different parts of the level, to using knowledge learnt from one part of the level to get past an obstacle. An obstacle might be a gap too large to jump, or it might be a ghost that if it touches you will kill you.

You play as a little boy who is stuck in a dream, he needs to find out the truth in the dream so he can escape.

So lets take a look at what is good and what is bad.

The Good
Hand drawn animation means this game looks beautiful. Really impressive.
The music/sound effects really do add to the experience, and as the game suggests, it is really best if you play while wearing headphones.
The levels have interesting challenges which can feel very satisfying once you figure out how to get past it, and then when you finally do.

The Bad
The game has a steep learning curve, and sometimes you can find yourself getting frustrated not so much because it is too difficult but because the controls can be a bit fiddly at times, meaning you need to sometimes make pixel perfect jumps in quick succession to complete an objective.

The controls could be improved, there is hardly any margin for error, and sometimes doing quick moves means that a jump you need to do simply does not happen. I hope these issues are fixed in future updates.

There are a few graphical glitches, and you can sometimes find yourself trapped with no way to continue other than to reset the levl.

Summary
A fun game that with the right updates could be a great game.

As the game is now I give it a 7/10

REVIEW: iHUGu - Nintendo Switch

From Kool2Play studios comes iHUGu (I hug you) is a new Indy game on Nintendo Switch.

At it's base this is a simple memory game. You start off by choosing your character. Which you can also customize. You are then faced by a queue of people you have to hug, however if you hug the same person twice you lose. It really is that simple.

If you are a fan of memory games then this is good fun. And there really is quite the challenge once you have hugged more than 10 people and you start to question yourself. There is a time limit for each hug, and there are also other power ups you can collect.

It even has multiplayer, whereby you are both on screen together, and that does bring in more of a challenge.

And a quick mention has to be given to the soundtrack. You will find yourself humming the songs hours after you have put down the game.

iHUGu is simple, fun and a bit silly. And I like it, and will happily give it a 7/10

Find it on the Nintendo Store at £3.59

Epic MMO Boundless launches its first major update

The holidays are over but developers Wonderstruck have been working hard to provide a new year’s treat. The first major update for subscription-free MMO Boundless has now gone live! It introduces a new Guild system to the game, so meet up with your friends online (remember this can be played across both PC and PS4) and head in-game for a winter wonderland surprise.

Wonderstuck have been working hard to bring bi-weekly updates out since launch in September this year and are now pleased to announce the first major update, Empires.

Wonderstruck are showing no sign of slowing down either - the publicly-announced roadmap for Boundless includes game-expanding features such as farming, alongside content drops such as the Hunter creature, a vicious new addition to the food chain. The team have just released the much-anticipated 'LED' blocks, which will enable players to incorporate simple animations to their builds. With even more huge features yet to be announced, launch really was just the beginning for Boundless. The Empires update will introduce Guilds, enabling players in-game to organise settlements and resources much more effectively, grant various buffs to members, and improve the process of collaborative building.

Heavy Metal Machines gets vacation event that rewards gamers in “casual mode”

January 15, 2018 - Vacations are a time to kick back and relax, even in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Heavy Metal Machines. The free-to-play car combat MOBA with a rock n' roll attitude is starting today it's HMM 2019 Kick-off event, that rewards an exclusive "2019" celebratory theme portrait to players that complete matches in it's Casual Mode. So start your engines and… relax for a bit.

To get the avatar portrait, players need only to complete 20 games on Casual Match mode, rather than the popular Custom Game mode. Casual Mode is open to players of all skill sets, bringing a greater level of interaction between veterans and newcomers.

It is not necessary to win, they just need to finish the matches either alone or with friends. But don't chill out too much! As players can't be AFK (away from keyboard), otherwise the match won't be counted. Players will be given 13 "vacation time" to complete the event and get their avatars.

Narrated by Larry Huffman, of Rock 'n Roll Racing fame, the game pits two teams controlling heavily armed characters in deadly arenas, as they race to pick up a bomb and use it to score and destroy the opponent's base.

More information about Heavy Metal Machines can be found on the official website.

REVIEW: Octahedron on Xbox One - Also coming to Nintendo Switch on January 17th

Review by Jon Donnis
I published a preview for Octahedron a few weeks back and I just had to play it, the games is very reminiscent to the kind of games I loved back in the 1980s. But with Octahedron you have a full on neon psychedelic experience that is truly something special to behold.

The basic mechanics of the game involve you controlling your character as he/she tries to get from one place to the another on each level. You can place platforms out of thin air and then you use them to reach different places. Sounds easy right? WRONG. This game has a steep learning curve. And although frustrating at times, it never makes you want to just give up, it just makes you want to keep trying it until you get it right, for you can see what you need to do, you just need to get it right, and when you finally do it is very satisfying.

The game has a great soundtrack which includes "chiptune trance over synthwave to progressive house" and really is a plus to the game.

In my opinion this is an "old school" game but with the modern graphical and musical twist. It will appeal most to the older gamer who perhaps remembers these types of games, and due to the nature of the game I sense that it may perhaps take too much patience for the younger gamer who wants everything given to them on a plate.

I loved the game, and it is one I will probably still be playing in a few months if not longer.

Watch the trailer below to get a good idea of the game and enjoy the awesome soundtrack.

I give the game a strong 8/10

Octahedron launched on Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in March this year. And is out on Nintendo Switch on January 17th.
